This is a weekly advice column written by my mother, Fariba. If you have any questions or would love an opinion on something, please feel free to ask in the comments below.
If one asks you what you are most grateful for in your life, what would be your answer?
One might say his or her partner, children, job, parents, possessions, house, pet(s)…
Today, I’m practicing gratitude for something else. I’m grateful for my ability to be resilient and see the good in everything that happens. In the course of my life, I have noticed that even in the worst of situations, there is good.
And as much as it sounds cliché, there is truth in that. When we are in the midst of dealing with all the “stuff” in our lives, we are so busy that we tend to miss the opportunity to stop and reflect in those moments, and to practice gratitude.
I believe that even if you find yourself in a negative or difficult situation, there is at the very least purpose to be found. I believe that we are here on Earth to have all sorts of experiences, even the negative ones. Those negative experiences are what guide and shape us, give us contrast, and sometimes even work out better than we anticipate.
Today, take time to notice the good around you and in the situations you find yourself in. Look to the sky and say with all your heart, thank you for my situation; thank you for this invaluable experience. After all, I think that is the purpose of life and why we are here!
