As an enthusiast of natural foods and artisan goods, I couldn’t be more excited about sharing this with you today. I love using honey to sweeten everyday enjoyments like oatmeal and tea, as well as treats like my peach pepper tart and these pear walnut crostini.
Since honey can be a bold flavor, it’s important to me to use quality, pure honey. I don’t want any of the fake stuff that tastes so sweet, it’s almost bitter in the aftertaste.
Finding this has completely elevated my obsession with artisan honey.
If you’ve ever had saffron, you’ll know it’s got a subtle flavor that’s enjoyable, but hard to describe in words. Saffron has honey-like notes, which is why it’s so perfect when it’s infused in raw honey.
My morning oatmeal tastes like dessert now, and these pear walnut crostini are fancier than they could have ever been with just plain honey. I also love the story behind this saffron honey.
The honey is produced by a small company called , who aims to incorporate gourmet, natural ingredients into everyday cooking. The honey itself is made on a bee farm in Minnesota by another small business who devotes their time and passion to making the purest honey possible.
I’m a big supporter of small businesses, so it’s just an extra bonus to know my latest pantry addition comes from people who care.
Making these pear walnut crostini couldn’t be easier. I simply toast baguette slices, then smear fresh ricotta over them, top them with pear slices, toasted walnuts, and a delectable drizzle of the .
They make great accompaniments to a glass of wine, or serve well as appetizers for a gathering. The saffron honey compliments the floral quality of the pears while providing that extra boost of sweetness to each bite.
