If you remember my DIY dining table post from last week, then you may remember me mentioning my search for dining room chair slipcovers. In this post, I’ll be sharing where I purchased my slipcovers and how I made them work for my dining chairs.
Dining Room Chair Slipcovers
After I stripped the paint off my dining table last week, I was left with a beautiful rustic, gray-toned table and black ladder back chairs that did not match the table in any shape or form.
Rather than purchase an entire new set of dining chairs, I decided to transform my existing chairs with slipcovers.
I did a lot of research on the internet for dining room chair slipcovers, and that’s when I finally found these ones that I purchased on Amazon.
Why I Chose These Slipcovers
These cotton slipcovers seemed to be the closest in color to what I was going for. They weren’t pure white, yet they weren’t tan or beige like many of the other ones I’d seen on the web.
The slipcovers also had positive reviews, and no one complained about the slipcovers being too thin or sheer. This was a common complaint that I found when shopping for slipcovers, and it was one that I was worried about as my dining chairs had a black wooden back and black wooden legs.
Thankfully, these dining room chair slipcovers arrived looking great in quality and color.
Fitting the Slipcovers Onto My Chairs
Now, anyone who’s ever ordered a slipcover will tell you that the fit is always a tricky issue.
In my case, my chairs had a slight cushion seat and the perfect height for the length of the slipcovers. My concern was more in regards to how I was going to fill out the slipcover when it came to the back of my chair.
I thought about purchasing some upholstery foam, but I wasn’t sure if it would truly fill out these slipcovers the way I wanted them to. So, for the heck of it, I pinned a slim foam bedroom pillow to the back of my dining chair and slipped my cover over the chair.
It worked perfectly for filling out the loose fabric, not to mention it made the chairs really comfortable too. If I wanted, I could have added extra padding to my seats as well, but I didn’t fuss too much over it.
I feel great about the way the chairs turned out and it’s comforting to know that I can toss the slipcovers into the machine whenever I need to wash them.
